Mount Isa City Council provides employment for approximately 200 employees in a variety of full time, part time, contractual and casual positions.
These positions cover the full scope of Council operations from administration, financial, professional and technical roles to operational positions within the various sections.
About the role
The primary function of this role is undertake the functions and responsibilities of Council's plumbing inspector. This role will have responsibility for the review and processing of plumbing applications and for undertaking the plumbing inspections of approved applications.
Secondary functions of the role are:
• The oversight and maintenance of Council's smart meter fleet and meter reading support.
• The administration and inspection services to ensure compliance with legislation and Council's policy for backflow prevention devices.
• As directed assisting the Team Leader Water and Sewer with general plumbing duties.

About You
You will have:
• Trade qualifications in plumbing with backflow prevention accreditation.
• Extensive general plumbing experience.
• Sound knowledge of the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 and the Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2019 and the role and responsibilities of the QBCC in relation to plumbing and drainage compliance.
• Sound knowledge and practical experience with the Plumbing Code of Australia and the Queensland Plumbing and Wastewater Code.
• Sound knowledge and practical experience with smart metering installations and their associated installation and monitoring software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex technical matters to a range of stakeholders with differing backgrounds and knowledge.
• Ability to utilise computer software and Council's corporate systems to manage records and data.
• General Construction Induction QLD (White Card)
• Current MC or MR/HR Driver's Licence - mandatory.
• Tickets highly desirable - loader, bobcat, water truck, skid steer, backhoe or any other applicable ticket for construction and maintenance activities.
• Proven capacity to work outdoors in the heat for long periods of time.
• Must be willing and able to undertake additional trade qualifications and any other relevant training where Council considers such training would be beneficial to the role.
