Maintenance Officer / Handyperson
An exciting career opportunity is now available for a Maintenance Officer / Handyperson to be part of our team here at the Mantra Terrace Hotel in Brisbane!
The hotel is centrally located only a short distance from the Brisbane CBD; with everything a guest could want right on our doorstop. With a modest 86 rooms, across three categories, Mantra Terrace Hotel is a tidy little hotel, overflowing with potential (just looking for the right people bring it out!).
Managed by leading hospitality management company 1834 Hotels. The successful candidate will be a dedicated, hard-working, and hands-on professional with a passion for excellence and a high attention to detail. Reporting directly to our Housekeeping Manager, our Maintenance Officer / Handyperson will be a critical part of the hotel operations, responsible for the general upkeep and repair of guest rooms, public areas, and facilities. Tasks include:
Guest Room Maintenance: attending to maintenance requests including light plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs (e.g., fixing door handles, taps, light fittings, and furniture).
Preventative Maintenance: conducting routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and plant rooms to identify issues before they become problems.
General Repairs: performing minor paint touch-ups, patching, grouting, sealing, and replacing fittings or fixtures as required.
Grounds and Exterior Work: assisting with upkeep of outdoor areas, pathways, signage, and car parks.
Equipment and Systems: monitoring and maintaining basic building systems (lighting, air conditioning units, water heaters, etc.) and reporting major faults to management.
Safety and Compliance: supporting workplace health and safety by maintaining clear work areas, following safe work procedures, and reporting any hazards or incidents promptly.
Team Support: assisting other departments (Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage) with operational needs such as furniture moves, room setups, and emergency callouts when required.
Record Keeping: logging maintenance tasks, inspections, and completed work accurately in the property's maintenance system.
The ideal candidate will have:
A can-do, responsible, and flexible approach to work with a strong work ethic;
Previous experience in a maintenance, trades, or facilities role (hotel or accommodation experience highly regarded);
Strong general repair skills across basic plumbing, painting, electrical, and carpentry tasks;
Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise work and manage time efficiently;
Customer-focused and professional when interacting with guests and team members;
Physically fit, reliable, and attentive to detail;
Availability for flexible casual shifts, including occasional weekends or call-outs; and
A strong appreciation and compliance of workplace safety.
This is a casual role, working a spread of shifts over a 7-day roster; including weekdays, weekends, nights, and public holidays.
