The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) delivers expert, person-centred care to adult patients in both emergency and outpatient settings. Collaborating closely with admitting teams from admission through discharge, the NP leads discharge planning and outpatient follow-ups to enhance patient outcomes and reduce readmissions. The NP also drives the specialty forward through research and quality improvement initiatives at local and national levels.

Where you'll be working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

What you'll be doing
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives'. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides readily available access to high level clinical expertise and support across the continuum of care. The Emergency medicine NP will provide expert health care to adult patients who are within the emergency setting at the Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) in collaboration with the admitting team throughout their episode of care, from admission to discharge, and in the outpatient setting. The NP will provide consultancy and leadership with patients admitted to the POWH and play a key role in their discharge planning. The NP will develop and lead outpatient clinics that will provide follow up review of patients to optimise outcomes, secondary prevention and avoid hospital re/admission. The NP will improve service provision by participating in and leading research and quality initiatives related to the specialty both on a local and national scale.
The Nurse Practitioner's extended practice role includes; comprehensive assessment, interpretation of diagnostics, implementation of treatment modalities and relevant referral skills applied to a broad range of challenging, complex and changing situations within the Emergency setting.
