About the role
The Machine Service Technician is a vital position to ensure the reliable operation and longevity of CNC machinery by performing expert maintenance and repair services. The Machine Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, conducting preventive and corrective maintenance, and minimising downtime for CNC equipment such as Haas and Mazak machines. This role plays a critical part in supporting production efficiency, machine safety, and customer satisfaction through timely, high-quality technical service.
The Machine Service Technician will be responsible (but not limited to) the following job duties:
Perform diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of CNC machines (Haas, Mazak, etc.) onsite in the Machine Shop.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and internal service schedules.
Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery including electrical, mechanical, and software setup.
Calibrate machine components to ensure performance accuracy (e.g., spindles, axes, controllers).
Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, PLC ladder logic, and service manuals.
Work with CNC controls to update parameters, diagnose faults, and make necessary adjustments.
Maintain accurate records of service work, parts used, and time spent on repairs.
Communicate clearly regarding diagnosis, repair options, and maintenance recommendations.
Collaborate with technical support teams and escalate complex issues when necessary.
Key competencies:
Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
Working knowledge of CNC controls, particularly Haas and Mazak
Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and blueprints.
Proficient with precision measuring instruments (dial indicators, micrometers, lasers).
Previous experience with PLCs and CNC networking
Knowledge of tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing processes
