Position Summary
We are seeking an Engineering Technologist to apply established engineering principles to the development, testing, installation, and compliance verification of mechanical and mechatronic systems. The role involves implementing engineering solutions for performance upgrades, calibration validation, and regulatory compliance, working under broad direction from Mechanical Engineers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Systems Testing
Conduct dynamometer testing of powertrain systems for engine and transmission performance validation
Perform pre- and post-modification testing for APR calibrations, exhaust, suspension, and brake upgrades
Execute field tests to validate drivability, durability, and ADR compliance
2. Data Analysis and Reporting
Analyse engine, transmission, and chassis performance data to identify variations and compliance issues
Perform computations for performance benchmarking and calibration optimisation
Prepare test reports, data charts, and technical diagrams for engineering review
3. Installation of Engineering Solutions
Assemble and install performance mechanical assemblies including exhaust, suspension, brake kits, and wheel fitments
Install and calibrate hydraulic systems and mechanical controls in modified vehicles
Select appropriate tools and fastening systems per engineering specifications
4. Support to Engineering Activities
Assist Mechanical Engineers with research and design for performance upgrades
Prepare drawings and mechanical designs under engineer direction using CAD
Support component selection and equipment specification for engineering projects
5. Quality Assurance and Compliance
Supervise inspection and maintenance of workshop machinery and test equipment
Verify all mechanical work complies with technical specifications, ADRs, and emissions standards
Maintain quality control systems including calibration version control and audit-ready documentation
6. Estimation and Contract Administration
Estimate material costs, quantities, and machine requirements for upgrade projects
Administer technical service agreements and supplier contracts for mechanical components
7. Technical Training and Advisory
Provide technical guidance on CAN-BUS systems, DSG technologies, and mechanical diagnostics
Deliver technical training on tuning methodologies and emerging VAG-group technologies
