We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced research management professional to join the Major Research Initiatives team at Swinburne University. As the Manager, Major Research Initiatives, you will oversee the efficient management and operational support of high-value, multi-party research awards. Your role will span the entire grants lifecycle, from offering grant and research project management advice to developing streamlined processes for major research projects. To excel, youll need strong problem-solving skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with research leaders, staff, and various university teams, ensuring research projects are delivered successfully. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Major Research Initiatives, you will work closely with Senior Project Officers in the unit. Youll also collaborate with the overarching Research Grants and Contracts team, which is a key part of supporting Swinburnes research strategies and goals. The Major Research Initiatives unit specialises in helping researchers secure and manage large-scale, complex external funding through grants, contracts, and related activities. From proposal development to project completion, youll play a vital role in overseeing and driving the success of funded research projects. This is a dynamic position where you can make a meaningful impact on Swinburnes innovative research initiatives. About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
  • Coordinate the development and submission of major funding proposals, ensuring compliance, strategic reviews, and timely submissions.
  • Promote and communicate major grant schemes, coordinate application timing and resources, and maintain accurate grant data and records.
  • Project manage the establishment of major projects, including budget and scope review, stakeholder coordination, and legal agreement finalization.
  • Liaise with granting agencies and partners, oversee project setup activities, and ensure compliance with award guidelines and university policies.
  • Provide expert advice on project monitoring, reporting, and management frameworks, and support dispute resolution and project evaluation.
  • Lead continuous improvement of business practices, mentor the university community on project delivery, and develop high-quality documentation and metrics for performance evaluation.
Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
