The team

This role will report to the Head of People Programs as part of our cohesive and collaborative People & Culture (P&C) team of around twenty professionals, which delivers initiatives that are aligned with business strategy across the employee lifecycle. Our work includes the operational and the strategic to enhance the employee experience, including WHS and Wellbeing. Mirroring the composition of the organisation, this permanent role and the majority of our P&C team are based in Sydney, and we work in the office 50% of the time.

The role

As the WHS and Wellbeing Partner, you will drive programs of work for work health and safety strategies, regulatory and policy compliance, and wellbeing programs. You will add value by guiding, coaching and supporting divisional leadership, providing strategic, advisory and operational support to leaders and employees, collaborating with your P&C colleagues, as required.

As the sole safety professional, you will be responsible for ongoing reporting, compliance and case management, as well as building strong stakeholder relationships to ensure that WHS policies and processes are understood and adopted. Your goal will be to foster a positive, supportive and inclusive work environment that promotes health and wellbeing for all employees. As such, you will develop and implement wellbeing programs, organise initiatives that promote mental and physical health, and ensure that the work culture values resilience, work/life balance and wellness.

Key responsibilities

  • In partnership with the Chief People Officer and Head of People Programs, develop the WHS and Wellbeing strategy, aligning regulatory and organisational requirements;
  • Provide expert guidance on health, safety and wellbeing issues, analyse data to detect trends and emerging risks, and devise timely proactive strategies;
  • Case management for all work and non-work-related injuries that have an impact on day-to-day work, ensuring effective and compassionate return-to-work processes;
  • Ensure APRAs adherence all relevant WHS laws, regulations, Codes of Practice and standards, and effective application in line with the APRA Code of Conduct and relevant policies;
  • Lead and coordinate the WHS Committee, ensuring engagement with the relevant stakeholders and coordinating and implementing action items; and
  • Build strong relationships with Comcare and regulatory bodies, acting as the central point of contact.

About you

  • Demonstrated skills, experience and proven capacity to lead the development and implementation of WHS and wellbeing strategies, programs and initiatives;
  • Demonstrated experience managing WHS cases, with a strong understanding of claims management, Comcare and WHS legislation;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence a broad range of executive stakeholders to gain agreement on strategies;
  • A forward planner with the ability to dive into detail to derive key insights from business reporting but also scan the horizon for emerging opportunities;
  • Demonstrated understanding of health and safety legislation, regulatory environment, and market leading WHS practices; and
  • WHS experience working in an organisation regulated by Comcare is preferable.

To work with us, you must be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Baseline Security clearance through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
