About the Opportunity
SAFE START is a prevention, early intervention, and treatment model of care aimed at improving outcomes for families with psychosocial vulnerabilities during the perinatal period. It focuses on perinatal families identified as Level 3 risk through the SAFE START psychosocial assessment and depression screening processes, who often face multiple and complex risk factors. The model seeks to enhance family functioning by ensuring coordinated support and treatment from a range of specialist health and related services. The SAFE START Coordinator provides strategic leadership and coordination of this model across the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD). The position works district-wide, with the base location negotiable.
The role is responsible for facilitating multidisciplinary case discussions, developing referral pathways, and promoting education to support integration of the SAFE START system of screening and referral across key services, including mental health, maternity, child and family health, and Priority Populations. Additionally, the Coordinator ensures that MLHD meets its obligations under the NSW Ministry of Health SAFE START Strategic Policy, while offering essential mental health consultation, liaison, and care coordination between mental health, drug & alcohol, maternity, child & family health, paediatrics, and other perinatal service partners for families with multiple and complex needs from pregnancy to 24 months postnatal.
