Civil Engineering Professionals design, plan, organise and oversee the construction of civil engineering projects such as dams, bridges, pipelines, gas and water supply schemes, sewerage systems, roads, airports and other structures; analyse the likely behaviour of soil and rock when placed under pressure by proposed structures and design structural foundations; analyse the statical properties of all types of structures and test the behaviour and durability of materials used in their construction; plan and develop transportation systems; and estimate and monitor the construction costs of projects. Determining construction methods, materials, and quality standards, as well as drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans, and procedures for construction. Organising and supervising site labour, the delivery of materials, plant, and equipment, and developing detailed programs to coordinate site activities. Obtaining soil and rock samples at various depths and testing them to assess strength, compressibility, and other properties affecting soil and rock behaviour under structural loads, in order to determine safe load capacities. Reviewing architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total project costs, and preparing detailed cost plans and estimates to support effective budgetary control. Monitoring design changes, evaluating their impact on costs, and measuring, valuing, and negotiating variations to design specifications. Analysing structural systems to assess their performance under both static and dynamic loads. Designing structures to ensure stability and resistance to collapse, bending, twisting, or undesirable vibration. Assessing current and projected travel flow patterns, considering population growth and changing transport needs. Designing the physical components of transportation systems, including highways, railways, urban transit networks, air transport facilities, logistical supply systems, and their terminals. Working Hours: Full-time position, 40 hours per week with possible overtime outside normal working hours and on weekends.
