• Fixed Term until December 2026
• PACCT 6 $82,089.07 per annum (exclusive of superannuation)

About the role:

The Career Counsellor will provide outreach and career advice for school-aged early school leavers to support secure transitions into, and continued engagement in, post-school education, training and employment pathways. It will also support Box Hill Institutes Skills and Job Centre (SJC) to build additional youth-focused capability and capacity into their existing offering.

The Career Counsellor is a member of the SJC team, one of the specialised teams in the Employment Initiatives department within the Strategic Engagement division. This position is responsible for working professionally with employees at all levels across Box Hill Institute and liaising with relevant external stakeholders. This includes secondary schools, parents, employers and other community groups.

The Career Counsellor provides services and support to referrals who are interested in career planning and development to maximise the individuals opportunity to gain employment through appropriate career choices and associated skills development. This position will focus on a number of specific cohorts including referrals from exempting schools or DE regions/clusters, TAFE/dual sector universities delivering the VCE and VPC, other services and self-presenting individuals. This role is fixed term until December 2026.

About You:

• Relevant qualification and demonstrated experience in a similar role
• Graduate Certificate of Career Development, and/or equivalent CICA listed qualification
• Experience working with early school leavers or young people - highly desirable
• Demonstrated ability to work productively with any clients utilising a range of employment services, including career counselling and contemporary recruitment practice to achieve positive client outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to quickly build excellent rapport with clients and relevant stakeholders to maximise information gathering in appointments and understand stakeholder needs and requirements
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to successfully engage with clients, stakeholders and community groups, using a pastoral care approach
• Ability to motivate and further develop work area colleagues in best practice career development skills.
