Reporting to the Superintendent Drill & Blast and Road Maintenance, as a Drill and Blast Supervisor your main accountability will be to lead a team conducting production drilling, stope prepping and blasting activities and oversight and operation of the underground magazine. You will also be focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader by engaging, developing and coaching your team whilst ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable production.

You will also:

• Build effective relationships across multiple mine departments to support the delivery of improved production
• Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Charter Values
• Encourage and promote continuous improvement by constantly looking for opportunities to improve work practices and procedures
• Manage a diverse team of operators in a drill & blast environment
• Work within a team environment to meet budgeted shift drill targets and weekly blast plans
• Provide expertise and report events and hazards in a timely and accurate manner
• Lead and coach your team through process improvement initiatives
• Undertake performance, development and disciplinary conversations and reviews
• Identify, build and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching, development and documented succession planning

About You

You will have a desire to shape culture, lead a team and improve business processes. Your background in either a similar level or type of position will see you well placed with the required capability to step into this opportunity. Your ability to communicate is of the upmost importance as well as your relationships skills. It is essential that you demonstrate impeccable safety behaviours and being safety focused is part of your everyday. Your other skills and experience should include:

• Previous supervisory experience
• Underground mining experience, ideally coupled with exposure to drill and blast practices
• Current SA Blasters Licence is highly desirable, must have the ability to obtain a police clearance and SA Blasters License
• Proven ability to influence and mentor others in HSE principles and behaviours
• Ability to operate at multiple levels and across disciplines
