Primary objective Under direction of the Operations Manager, maintain the grounds and gardens on the Katherine Hospital campus in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition and undertake ground maintenance functions within the hospital-housing complex as directed. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Responsible for the daily rubbish collection and disposal from all Hospital entrances; ward verandas, lawns and footpaths. 2. Collaborate effectively within a small team, fostering cohesion and teamwork. 3. Clean external walkways, driveways, car parks and gutters on an as required or directed basis. 4. Water lawns and plants as required using either manual or automatic irrigation systems. 5. Maintain the hospital and accommodation grounds, including mowing lawns, edging, weed control, pruning, fertilising, raking, application of weedicide and pesticides and maintain firebreaks around the hospital. 6. Maintain the Katherine Hospital swimming pool on a daily basis, this includes handling chemicals, testing pool water, cleaning of pool and cleaning of toilets within the pool area. 7. On required basis, delivery of medical waste to Royal Darwin Hospital via road travel. 8. Conduct regular maintenance of gardening equipment and powered machinery. 9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Selection criteria Essential 1. Experience in use of garden equipment and small engine powered machinery including ride on mowers and tractors. 2. Current Northern Territory Light Rigid drivers licence or ability to obtain prior to employment. 3. Basic mechanical knowledge and an understanding of grounds and gardens in the NT tropics including irrigation systems. 4. Knowledge and experience in the use of weedicide, herbicides, pest management, fertilisers and chemicals used in ground maintenance and pool care. 5. Must have basic literacy and numeracy skills and be punctual and reliable 6. Capacity to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and prolonged outdoor work in various weather conditions. 7. Ability to follow instructions and interact professionally with staff, visitors, or residents and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, 8. Demonstrate a basic understanding of WHS regulations and Worksafe practices in an industrial environment and whilst operating machinery. Desirable 1. Formal qualification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field. 2. Experience with irrigation systems and drainage.
