Role

It is the responsibility of the Canteen Manager to:-

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the canteen, under the guidance of the School Council, Principal, and Business Manager, using established routines, methods and procedures.
  • Ensure that safe and appropriate practices are followed in relation to cleanliness, hygiene, Health Regulations, DET regulations, and the Healthy Eating ¿ School Food Services Policy.
  • Be accountable for the counting and recording of daily takings including balancing the cash, EFTPOS and QKR takings each day
  • Ensure the security of the canteen and all equipment used in canteen operations
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Maintain current Food Safety Supervisor and Food Handling Certificate qualifications and any other relevant professional development training.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities within the dimension of work level as requested by the Principal or Business Manager.
Responsibilities
  • Operate the canteen each day that students are at school, or as agreed by School Council
  • Promote an interesting, healthy, varied and innovative menu
  • Promote the canteen menu through the school newsletter
  • Cater for selected school meetings or events if required
  • Ensure the submission of a ¿Food Safety Program¿ with the Benalla Rural City Public Health Coordinator, and update as required.
  • Ensure that all daily monitoring and recording is maintained as per Food Safety Program including checking and recording temperatures on all fridges and freezers daily
  • Undertake shopping, ordering of goods, and preparation of purchase orders, and check stock deliveries to invoice.
  • Ensure all incoming orders are monitored and recorded as per the Food Safety Program, and that stock is stored and rotated appropriately.
  • Undertake a stock take of goods at designated intervals
  • Provide information for reports to School Council as required
  • Ensure the collection, recording and balancing of monies is undertaken within established internal control guidelines.
  • Prepare canteen menu and pricing for School Council approval
  • Maintain the QKR online ordering program with up to date menu items and pricing
  • Prepare food for sale to students and staff at recess and lunch time.
  • Clean all food preparation equipment and surfaces ensuring the highest level of hygiene.

Benalla P-12 College

Benalla P-12 College is located in the Rural City of Benalla which is ideally located close to the Victorian snowfields and the major centres of Wangaratta and Shepparton. The town is surrounded by quality wineries and a variety of natural environments, with the Murray River only an hour away. Melbourne is easily reached in two hours along the Hume Freeway and the Melbourne to Wodonga railway line also runs through the city.

Benalla P-12 College was established in January 2013 as a result of the merger of all four government schools in Benalla. The College has a student population of approximately 870. We provide a vibrant teaching and stimulating learning environment that commences with Grade Prep and continues through the secondary years to VCE and VCAL.

Our College structure from 2025 will have 3 separate sites across the town:

Avon Campus (P-5) Waller Campus (P-6) Faithfull Campus (7-12)

Each site has an Assistant Principal and there is also a College Principal.
