Imagine Rural What youll be doing The Consumer Advocate will advocate on behalf of consumers, promote the concept of social inclusion and concept of recovery. The position will also engage with local partner organisations, and assist in the development and delivery of training programs to sustain and support consumers.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum Qualification Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (consumer) or willingness to obtain same within 12 months of appointment.
  • A general understanding of the nature of mental illnesses and the experiences and difficulties faced by those people who experience mental illness.
  • A general understanding of the nature of mental health service delivery, including some knowledge of State and national policies and directions for mental health services.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate empathically and supportively with mental health service consumers, and effectively with mental health service providers.
  • Ability to work alongside mental health professionals in a non-clinical role.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Personal "lived experience” of being a consumer of a mental health service (Public or private).
  • Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
