Work Health & Safety Business Partner – Disability Inclusion
Based in Pitt Street, Sydney CBD – HybridAbout the role
This is a specialist Work Health and Safety Business Partner role with a strong focus on disability inclusion. You will lead the implementation of key elements of Uniting’s Disability Inclusion Framework and Action Plan as they relate to employment workplace adjustments, accessibility and safe inclusion participation at work.
As the WHS subject matter expert for disability inclusion, you will work closely with leaders, teams, people with disability and external partners to create inclusive, accessible and psychologically safe workplaces. You will also support early intervention, active recovery and sustained workforce participation for employees impacted by illness, injury or disability.
Role purpose
The WHS Business Partner, Disability Inclusion coordinates and delivers Uniting’s workplace adjustments program, embeds disability inclusion principles across policies and practices, and ensures compliance with relevant WHS, accessibility and anti-discrimination legislation. The role balances strategic influence with practical delivery in a complex organisation.
Key accountabilities
You will:
Lead the identification, assessment, implementation and reporting of reasonable workplace adjustments.
Coordinate and monitor the workplace modifications and adjustments program.
Establish and manage partnerships with external providers and schemes, including Job Access.
Promote awareness and uptake of the workplace adjustments program across Uniting.
Collaborate with Directorates to embed disability inclusion and accessibility into policies, programs and practices.
Conduct accessibility audits and provide clear, risk-based recommendations.
Engage with people with disability, the Disability Inclusion Network and advocacy groups to ensure lived experience informs decisions.
Identify capability, training and awareness gaps and support the co-design of targeted initiatives.
Completing quarterly audits of our DIAP actions (target 80%) to provide required data for Uniting Quarterly Performance Reporting against the Corporate DIAP measure, and to support the DIAP governance body (reporting to the DEI Council) with relevant DIAP progress updates.
Contribute to compliance with legislation and standards (including DDA, WCAG, ISO 45001 and ISO 43003).
Advise on inclusive and accessible communications, events and digital platforms.
Support early intervention and return-to-work practices.
Review and escalate high-risk incidents and investigations and maintain relevant risk registers.
Lead or contribute to WHS projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Model positive safety behaviours and apply Keep U Safe to Thrive principles using a non-punitive, learning-focused approach.
WHS leadership responsibilities
You will also:
Implement WHS strategic and operational plans as they relate to disability inclusion.
Provide subject matter expert advice, insights and reporting.
Support the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the WHS Management System.
Contribute to WHS cultural maturity uplift across Uniting.

Qualifications and experience:
Qualifications
Bachelor qualification in a relevant field such as Occupational Therapy, Health Promotion, Disability Studies, or equivalent experience (highly desirable).
Experience and expertise
Demonstrated knowledge of disability inclusion, accessibility standards and relevant legislation.
Experience delivering programs or projects, ideally in community, education or government settings.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex organisation.
Lived experience of disability, or experience working closely with people with disability, is highly valued.
Typically, a minimum of two years’ relevant experience.
Even better
Mental Health First Aid certification.
