Position SummaryThe Engineer & Project Manager will oversee engineering, project delivery, and maintenance operations at Essence Group's Nowra facility. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring capital projects, asset reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with GMP, TGA, HACCP, and WHS standards.
The role also leads and manages the Maintenance Team, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, preventative maintenance, and long-term asset management.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Maintenance LeadershipLead and manage the site's maintenance team, including fitters and engineer.
Develop, implement, and oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and clear instructions to engineers and maintenance staff.
Ensure high equipment availability, plant reliability, and efficient asset utilisation.
Develop and maintain plant and manufacturing engineering standards.
Lead CAPEX projects from concept through to commissioning, including new line builds, process upgrades, and facility expansions.
Prepare, manage, and monitor engineering, procurement, and commissioning aspects of projects.
Establish project schedules and budgets, ensuring milestones are met.
Manage contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver safe, timely, and cost-effective outcomes.
Prepare and review technical drawings (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and ensure documentation systems are established for all engineering and maintenance activity.
Support R&D projects and process improvements as required.
Ensure all engineering and maintenance operations comply with TGA, GMP, HACCP, and WHS requirements.
Oversee process safety management and environmental compliance across the site.
Champion workplace health & safety and foster a "safety first" culture.
Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, implementing corrective and preventative actions.
Ensure lock-out/tag-out and permit-to-work systems are applied and monitored.
Actively participate in risk management for projects to satisfy safety and operational requirements.
Partner with operations, QA, and supply chain teams to drive operational efficiency.
Contribute to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Liaise with senior management regarding engineering aspects of product design and new manufacturing capabilities.
Research and develop new designs, products, and process improvements.
Provide input into daily, weekly, and monthly engineering/project reporting.
Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or equivalent.
Minimum 5+ years' experience in engineering, maintenance, and project management.
Previous experience in a highly regulated GMP environment (Food, Nutraceutical, or Pharmaceutical).
Proven ability to lead engineering and maintenance teams.
Experience with HVAC, production layout, and design of food/nutraceutical facilities (advantageous).
Proficiency in MS Project, MS Excel, and MS Word.
AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools and techniques.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.Strong organisational and multitasking ability, capable of operating with minimal supervision.
Must possess valid Australian work rights with no sponsorship requirements.
Lead both engineering projects and maintenance teams in a high-performanceenvironment.
