About the Role On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator/Welder to join their dynamic fabrication team. This role requires a skilled tradesperson with comprehensive expertise in metal fabrication processes and multiple welding techniques. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, operating advanced fabrication equipment, and producing high-quality metal components and structures. You will play a crucial role in delivering precision fabrications that meet rigorous quality standards and project timelines across diverse industrial and commercial applications. Key Duties & Responsibilities Precision Fabrication & Component Assembly • Execute precise cutting, bending, shaping, and forming of metal components using advanced equipment including saws, shears, press brakes, and rolling machines • Assemble and fit fabricated metal parts to create structural frames, machinery components, and custom fabrications according to detailed technical specifications • Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to accurately translate design requirements into finished metal products • Perform material preparation including cleaning, grinding, and surface treatment to ensure optimal conditions for fabrication and welding operations Advanced Welding Operations • Perform high-quality welding across multiple processes including MIG, TIG, Stick, and flux-cored welding to create strong, durable metal joints • Select and apply appropriate welding techniques and parameters based on material types, thicknesses, and specific project requirements • Ensure all welds meet stringent quality standards with thorough inspection for defects, implementing corrective measures when necessary • Maintain expertise in welding various metals including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium, adapting techniques to suit material characteristics Quality Assurance & Inspection • Conduct comprehensive inspections of workpieces and completed projects to verify adherence to specifications, tolerances, and quality standards • Implement quality control procedures throughout the fabrication process, identifying and addressing issues before final completion • Document inspection results and maintain quality records to support traceability and continuous improvement initiatives • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to maintain certification standards and implement best practices Equipment Operation & Maintenance • Operate and maintain fabrication machinery and welding equipment, performing routine calibration, cleaning, and basic maintenance tasks • Conduct regular safety inspections of all workshop equipment, identifying potential hazards and reporting maintenance requirements • Ensure optimal equipment performance through proper setup, operation, and care of all fabrication tools and machinery • Maintain inventory of consumables and equipment parts, coordinating with supervisors to ensure adequate supply levels Safety Compliance & Workshop Practices • Implement and adhere to all workplace health and safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, lockout/tag-out procedures, and safe material handling • Maintain clean and organized work areas, following established housekeeping standards to ensure a safe working environment • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions, contributing to the development of safe work practices and risk assessments • Handle flammable materials and hazardous substances according to safety data sheets and company procedures Essential Qualifications & Experience • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent qualification • Minimum 2 years' post-apprenticeship experience in metal fabrication and welding within an industrial environment • Proven experience with structural steel fabrication and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings Technical Skills & Certifications • Proficiency in multiple welding processes including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding across various metal types • Demonstrated ability to operate fabrication equipment including press brakes, guillotines, rollers, and cutting machinery • Welding certification (AWS or equivalent) highly regarded • Forklift licence preferred but not essential • Strong knowledge of metal properties and characteristics including steel, aluminium, and stainless steel Essential Skills & Attributes • Exceptional attention to detail with commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot fabrication and welding challenges • Physical capability to handle heavy materials and work in demanding industrial environments • Excellent teamwork and communication skills with ability to collaborate effectively with tradespeople and engineers • Reliability and strong work ethic with commitment to meeting project deadlines and quality standards • Adaptability to work across diverse projects and willingness to continuously develop technical skills Work Environment • Industrial workshop setting with exposure to machinery noise, welding fumes, and industrial materials • Regular use of personal protective equipment including welding helmets, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection • Fast-paced production environment with focus on quality, safety, and meeting project timelines To Apply If you are an experienced Metal Fabricator/Welder seeking a permanent role with an industry leader, we encourage you to apply.
