Primary objective Assist students in achieving successful educational outcomes and high level attendance through strong communication and working with families, staff, school community members and appropriate service agencies. Context statement Darwin High School is a large urban senior secondary school (Years 10-12) in the Northern Territory and has the largest student cohort in the Northern Territory (approximately 1300 students). The school has a reputation for academic excellence and is an Independent Public School. The core business of the work unit is enabling student excellence through connection with the community, parents and carers and relevant government and community agencies to enhance teaching and learning and provide for the wellbeing of students. Key duties and responsibilities 1. To provide a caring and supportive environment to ensure strong student enrolment and attendance. 2. Establish and promote relationships between schools, teachers, and parents to ensure that the objectives of education services are understood and appreciated. 3. Work as part of a team to case manage individual situations and refer families and/or students to appropriate support agencies, support the school leadership team to access appropriate networks to develop a harmonious and inclusive environment. 4. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with culturally diverse groups of people. 5. To provide appropriate administrative and professional support in line with the responsibilities of the position. Selection criteria Essential 1. Ability to communicate effectively with students and their families and develop community networks and partnerships with stakeholders to improve student attendance and retention. 2. Proven capacity to work effectively in a culturally sensitive environment, managing confidentiality. 3. Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a team to assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of strategies and programs to positively contribute to attendance. 4. Comprehensive understanding of student issues, knowledge and culture that surround students at risk of disengagement. 5. Ability to work under pressure and complete tasks in a set time frame, be self-motivated and exercise initiative.
