For more information on Special Measures plans, go to the OCPE website Primary objective Provide effective weed management services through the development, coordination, administration and implementation of buffel grass management activities including strategic control, eradication, survey, compliance and extension programs for stakeholders in Central Australia. Please note that while some parts of the position may require spraying of buffel grass, it is essentially not a ‘weed spraying position. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Assist in the development and implementation of buffel grass management activities in Central Australia through the provision of technical advice and support to stakeholders. 2. Participate in the implementation of strategic buffel grass management initiatives and evaluate and report outcomes. 3. Identify and survey buffel grass infestations and update the weeds database accordingly. This includes ground and air survey work in remote locations. 4. Coordinate and conduct strategic control of key buffel grass infestations and undertake related duties. 5. Supervise casual technical and short term project staff in the delivery of buffel grass management programs. Selection criteria Essential 1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent, or relevant experience in a field of technical work closely related to integrated weed management and/or natural resource management. 2. Ability to partake, plan and implement field trips in remote parts of Central Australia and demonstrated ability to manage work programs, specific projects and work effectively in remote localities for extended periods. 3. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills necessary for effective delivery of extension and compliance services and proficient report writing. 4. Experience in the delivery of weed management advice, and in the development of weed management plans. 5. Ability and willingness to exercise powers under the Weeds Management Act or similar legislation and undertake other enforcement activities as directed. 6. Experience in integrated weed management and the safe use, handling and application of a broad range of herbicides 7. Proven ability to work autonomously with direction as well as in small teams for overall work unit outcomes. 8. Current NT Class C Driver Licence or equivalent and ability to drive a manual vehicle. Desirable 1. Experience in the field application of GIS (geographic information system) and GPS (global positioning system) for weed mapping, planning and navigation. 2. Certificate IV in Government Investigations. Further information Weeds officers may be required to work on weekends and public holidays and must be able to work in remote and harsh climatic conditions.
