About the role The primary purpose of this role is to provide opportunities and skills that facilitate the transition from advanced trainee to consultant. The Hepatology Fellow manages patients with all forms of liver disease and plays an important role in all facets of their care. The Fellow provides appropriate clinical support to other members of the unit and is expected to demonstrate some autonomy in dealing with other professionals involved in the management of patients with liver disease. The Fellows position also involves a clinical research component and has been designed to provide opportunities to pursue and develop research projects within the unit. The weekly timetable is designed to provide some flexibility to accommodate specific research and clinical interests of the successful applicant. While experience and formal training/educational qualifications are highly regarded, the role is best suited to those seeking a career in Hepatology who are seeking extra sub-specialty training and directed vocational mentorship to reach that goal. About you Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Healths values Management of all facets of care for patients with liver disease, including endoscopic services. Show an ability to work semi-autonomously in the management of outpatients with liver disease, particularly complex patients or those requiring work-up for liver transplantation, in consultation with staff hepatologists as needed Provide appropriate clinical advice and support to others involved in the care of patients with liver disease, including participation at multi-disciplinary team meetings and a consultation service to other sub-specialties Work as a sub-investigator on a range of multicentre clinical trials investigating novel therapeutics in metabolic-associated fatty liver, autoimmune liver diseases, viral hepatitis and HCC.
