About the opportunity

A vacancy exists on Councils Audit and Risk Committee and Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for an independent member to join the committee. Applicants must have suitable qualifications and experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Accounting, Risk Management, Auditing, Legal.

Melbourne City Council has established an Audit & Risk Committee pursuant to Section 53 of the Local Government Act 2020 to support Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities related to financial and performance reporting, risk management, fraud prevention systems and control, maintenance of a sound internal control environment, assurance activities including internal and external audit and Councils performance with regard to compliance with its policies and legislative and regulatory requirements.

Independent members are appointed for an initial period not exceeding 3 years. Independent members may be re-appointed for a further period subject to satisfactory performance. Independent members will not be appointed for more than 3 consecutive terms. Independent members must collectively have expertise in financial management, risk management and also experience in public sector management. The current committee meets five times per year, independent members are remunerated per meeting at a rate set by Council.
