Salary: Level 3, $86,439 - $92,795 per annum (pro-rata) (PSCA 2024)

Work Type: Permanent - Full Time, Fixed Term - Full Time

Infrastructure Operations are seeking to establish a pool of Training Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during 2025 and up to the end of October 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Infrastructure Division has responsibility for the planning and provision of facilities (land, buildings and equipment), which includes land planning, student enrolment forecasting and facilities planning, strategic asset management, capital works programs, maintenance and minor works programs and provision of facilities related services.

The Infrastructure Operations Directorate is responsible for the provision of services to schools in relation to security and emergency management and environmental services including water and tree management, contaminated site investigations and remediation, and property management and leasing. The directorate also manages contracts, including the WA Schools Public Private Partnership, lawnmowing and hygiene contracts.

The Strategic Asset Services branch of the Infrastructure Operations Directorate supports training school grounds and hygiene staff, hygiene and grounds guidance for schools, and tree risk management.

The Role

The Strategic Asset Services branch of the Infrastructure Operations Directorate is seeking to establish a pool of skilled and motivated Training Officers to contribute to the success of our Grounds and Hygiene Training Team.

If successful, you will contribute to the design and delivery of engaging workforce training programs that align with departmental policies and legislative requirements. These programs support school-based staff, including cleaners, gardeners, and Manager Corporate Services roles. While a background in delivering cleaning or gardening workshops is highly desirable, it is not essential.

Training Officers are responsible for delivering induction, refresher, and specialist workshops to school cleaners and gardeners. Induction and refresher training emphasises safe work practices in school settings. Specialist workshops cover areas such as safe equipment use, pest control, tree care, irrigation, line marking, floor maintenance, everyday cleaning techniques, and leadership development.

Our training workshops are delivered across both metropolitan and regional locations, with regular sessions held at Tuart College in the northern metropolitan area and Atwell College in the southern metropolitan area throughout the term. Additional training is also conducted at various host schools throughout the metropolitan region during term breaks. To support regional training delivery, applicants must be willing and able to travel to regional locations for two nights twice per term.

You will work collaboratively with the training team and key stakeholders to ensure learning outcomes align with the skills and knowledge required across the workforce. In addition, you will support the scheduling, coordination, and promotion of training courses, while also performing a range of administrative tasks. These include maintaining training records, managing participant feedback, and tracking attendance.

As a Training Officer, you will contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment that promotes equity, diversity, and the achievement of both individual and Directorate goals. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Department’s policies, procedures, and standards.

Professional Benefits

Our employees enjoy a range of benefits which include:

  • Generous leave entitlements including annual, personal, long service and parental leave
  • Access to salary packaging (in accordance with relevant industrial instruments)
