About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer with 10+ years’ experience to join our WA Civil team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide high level technical support and direction in relation to civil engineering services for projects including civil, structural, resources, geotechnical and other specialisations of engineering. This is a significant opportunity for a high performing and motivated individual to accelerate their career development and personal growth aspirations to step into a Discipline Lead position, responsible for the Western Australian Civil team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and approving associated technical work directly related to the discipline and in project management capacities
  • Providing technical expertise and advice through all stages of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies, design strategies, construction to system integration and support
  • Manage project work technically and contractually to ensure that it meets technical requirements
  • Lead Quality Assurance, QA, and Quality Control, QC, of Civil design projects
  • Review and sign off on engineering and technical outputs such as reports, engineering principles & studies to ensure compliance to relevant standard
  • Delivery and coordination of projects and proposals
  • Financial management of projects by monitoring the actual time and cost expended on the total project against the budget, informing client of any changes in scope of work or other causes of variances from project resources.
  • Lead a team of engineers, providing technical advice and direction to all employee levels through technical challenges and issues.
  • Participating in client management and business development.
  • Contributing to the preparation and implementation of annual business plans, and monitor progress against targets
  • Playing an active role in the business leadership group through regular meetings, workshops and training
What do we need from you

Ideally, you will have a minimum of 10+ years’ professional experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities and exceptional technical expertise in civil engineering within a consultancy or matrixed environment.

You will also have:

  • Relevant tertiary Civil Engineering degree
  • CPEng and/or NER high desired
  • Extensive local WA experience in concept to execution phases of multi-disciplinary civil design projects including road design and rehabilitation, detailed and bulk earthworks, pipe and open channel drainage, water or tailings storage assessment and design, flood levees, and general civil works
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, develop business and project manage
  • Proven leadership skills and a desire to train, guide and mentor less experienced engineers
  • Strong knowledge and application of local standards, Australian standards and statutory and regulatory requirements relating to civil design and water management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage stakeholders at all levels
