The Sport and Recreational Officer (SPRO) will provide a safe and supportive environment to young people in placement, ensuring their daily care needs are met. The SPRO will plan, coordinate, and supervise sport and recreation activities that help participants reach personal milestones, build positive experiences with family, extended kin, peers, and strengthen cultural identity.

Primary focus is on First Nation children, young people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The SPRO must communicate effectively and support individuals using a strength-based model of care.

Mithangkaya Nguli YPA is a community‑controlled Indigenous corporation with over 40 years of history, working across traditional lands in Queensland to empower children and young people to be safe and thriving.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working with First Nations children, young people, and families within a community setting.
• Strong understanding of circumstances affecting children and young people in placement and broader community contexts.
• Experience in community service/youth work, particularly with child protection and youth justice systems.
• Demonstrated ability to be a positive role model and actively keep the community safe.
