Senior Cyber Security Analyst - Detection & Response, Ongoing opportunity based in Sydney CBD + hybrid working options available

The Department of Customer Service (DCS) is seeking a seasoned Senior Cyber Security Analyst to enhance our security operations. As a pivotal member of the security incident response team, you will leverage an array of sophisticated tools such as CrowdStrike, Microsoft Defender & Sentinel. Your expertise will be crucial in detecting and responding to cyber security threats and incidents. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital sector of the public service, safeguarding information and infrastructure against ever‑evolving cyber threats.

The Detection & Response team plays a crucial role within the Cyber and Information Security Office, tasked with the vital responsibility of managing security incidents. This specialised team is equipped to swiftly identify, assess, and mitigate cyber security threats, ensuring the integrity and resilience of the organisation’s digital infrastructure.

This role is pivotal to help mitigate security risks across DCS and its agencies, whilst contributing to strengthening the security posture within the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Proactively monitor, identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security incidents & threats
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to address cyber security risks and issues
  • Monitor, detect, report, and share information on incidents, threats, and trends to support informed decision‑making
  • Analyse and assess cyber threats to government services, assets and information to determine attribution, motivation and capability
  • Provide expert support to NSW Government department and agencies during incident response, provide technical expertise and advice, and investigate potential cyber security incidents
  • Mentor and guide staff in the timely delivery of actionable advice, intelligence and reporting on cyber security incidents, threats, trends and issues
  • Identify stakeholder requirements and prioritise workload to meet agreed outcomes and timeframes to ensure prompt resolution of cyber security incidents
  • Develop and lead projects with an aim to ensure continuous improvement of the team and NSW Government’s cyber security posture
About you
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing enterprise security solutions, including extended detection and response (XDR) systems and security information and event management (SIEM) platforms
  • Proficient in handling security incidents, with a track record of effective response and resolution
  • In‑depth knowledge of information security and cyber security principles, with a commitment to staying informed on the latest industry trends and practices
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of building strong relationships and explaining technical insights and influencing stakeholders at various organisational levels
  • Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic nature of the cyber threat landscape and respond to incidents as they arise
  • Any skills in digital forensics and threat hunting tools and process would be highly considered. Recognised qualifications or certifications in cyber security or a related field, reflecting a dedication to professional development and expertise in the field
