Principal Consultant - Sustainability

Talent Nation is seeking a commercially savvy sustainability leader to join us as a Principal Consultant - Sustainability. This is a senior advisory role within the Sustainability team, supporting the General Manager in growing capability, impact, and reputation across APAC.

The Role

The Principal Consultant | Sustainability Strategy Lead leads the approach to sustainability reporting and disclosure, transition risk, and decarbonisation planning. You will deliver credible, actionable insights aligned with global frameworks and Australian standards, including ASRS. The role strengthens service delivery, expands offerings, and builds team capability to help clients navigate regulatory change, manage risk, and unlock long-term value through sustainability.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Service Delivery & Client Excellence: Lead and contribute to sustainability engagements, ensuring exceptional client outcomes.
  • Drive capability in sustainability reporting and disclosure, delivering outputs aligned with ASRS, ISSB, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Provide expert guidance on transition planning and risk, helping clients navigate regulatory change and market expectations.
  • Embed high service standards, reviewing outputs for quality, accuracy, and relevance.
  • Strengthen internal methodologies and tools to enhance consistency, credibility, and client impact.
  • Growth & Market Development: Support the team in developing strategies to expand sustainability services and take the lead in areas aligned with your technical expertise.
  • Leverage existing client relationships to broaden sustainability presence and expand the pipeline.
  • Collaborate with RGMs and sector leads to cross-sell sustainability services across client portfolios.
  • Contribute to major pursuits and strategic engagements, shaping bid strategies and securing high-value opportunities.
  • Advance the decarbonisation offering, helping clients translate strategy into measurable action.
  • Contribute to market visibility through thought leadership, case studies, and industry participation.
  • Capability Building & Team Development: Build internal and client-side capacity to deliver measurable sustainability outcomes.
  • Empower and grow the sustainability team, shaping services and positioning the organisation as a trusted sustainability partner.
  • Mentor and coach sustainability consultants, embedding best-practice methodologies and innovation.
  • Foster cross-service line collaboration and knowledge sharing to strengthen delivery capability.
  • Strategic Alignment & Support: Contribute to the evolution of sustainability services, ensuring alignment with emerging standards, regulatory trends, and client needs.
  • Provide market insights to inform sustainability service development and strategic priorities.
  • Assist the General Manager in aligning sustainability initiatives with broader business goals.
  • Contribute to leadership forums and working groups to influence the organisation's sustainability positioning.

About You

You're a commercially savvy sustainability leader with a passion for driving sustainable outcomes within the built environment. Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • Extensive experience (ideally 15–20+ years) in sustainability, ESG, or related advisory/consulting roles, with a strong track record of delivering strategic outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in sustainability reporting and disclosure frameworks, including familiarity with ASRS (Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards), ISSB, TCFD, and other global frameworks.
  • Infrastructure or Real Estate Industry experience and/or ESG specialization.
  • Demonstrated experience in transition risk assessment, decarbonisation planning, and supporting clients through regulatory and market shifts.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of ESG market dynamics, risks, and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build client relationships, win work, and deliver impactful outcomes.
  • Skilled in coaching and developing teams to lift capability and embed best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience representing organisations at senior forums or industry events.
  • Resilient and adaptable, comfortable working in dynamic markets, with a track record of driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
