About the role:

• Part Time Contract to February 2027 – 3 days per week located in Macgregor ACT – Required availability Tue, Wed & Thurs – 8:30am to 4:00pm
• Base hourly rate of $39.24

About the opportunity:

The Newpin (New Parent and Infant Network) program supports parents to rebuild safe, nurturing relationships with their children.

Through therapeutic groups, parenting education and Therapeutic Family Play Sessions, families participate in a structured and supportive environment for up to 18 months. The goal is to strengthen parenting capacity, promote healing and safely reunite & preserve families wherever possible.

As a Newpin Play Worker, you will create safe, nurturing and therapeutic play environments for children and parents attending the program.

Working closely with the Newpin team, you will support children who have experienced trauma and help parents build stronger, more positive connections with their children through play and attachment-based activities.

What you’ll be doing:

• Delivering therapeutic play activities for infants and children
• Encouraging parents to engage with their children through attachment-focused and play-based approaches
• Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, development and self-esteem
• Observing family interactions and contributing to session reflections and case notes
• Providing care and play activities for children while parents attend therapeutic groups
• Supporting school readiness for children approaching school age
• Maintaining safe, welcoming and well-organised play environments
• Working collaboratively with the Newpin team and external partners including ACT Government, Children, Youth and Families.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about trauma-informed practice, child development and supporting families experiencing vulnerability.

Your Qualifications & Experience

• Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent)
• At least 3 years’ experience working with children
• Experience working with children and families, ideally in community or support settings experiencing complex needs or trauma
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and child development
• The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Understanding of child protection and trauma-informed practice
• Confidence maintaining records and working with client systems
• Current driver’s licence and WWVP check
