Position DetailsThe role supports forensic pathology by assisting with post‑mortem examinations and maintaining mortuary facilities, equipment, and records to high standards. It requires respectful handling of deceased persons, coordinating admissions and releases with coroners, police, and funeral services, and safeguarding valuables. A key responsibility is exhibit management, ensuring accurate chain of custody, liaising with external laboratories, and auditing stored samples to preserve integrity.
About the BusinessFSSA provides a comprehensive, coordinated range of services to agencies associated with the justice system including the State Coroner, South Australia Police (SAPOL), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and defence and civil litigants. We are part of the Attorney General’s Department and the Director, FSSA reports to the Executive Director, Finance People and Performance. Within FSSA there are four scientific / medico‑legal operational areas: Pathology, Chemistry, Biology and Toxicology, each analysing materials using a diverse range of scientific equipment and processes. The operational areas are supported by Administration, Information Technology and Projects, Science Support and Quality, who each provide underpinning services in support of the operational areas.
Employment ConditionsEmployment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD. Employment-related Screening Check required. Some out‑of‑hours work may be required. Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required. Some out‑of‑hours work and participation in an on‑call roster will be required. The incumbent will be required to be fully immunised against Hep B and to submit to Basel.
