Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Your Impact

Are you ready to elevate your career in heavy-duty equipment maintenance? Join our team at Newmont Tanami as a Diesel Fitter and become an essential part of our dynamic workforce working on a modern and progressive mobile fleet. We are actively seeking experienced underground fitters to join our mobile maintenance team.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you'll be a key contributor to the Tanami mobile maintenance team, delivering safe, high-quality diesel maintenance across heavy mobile equipment. Your work will ensure fleet reliability, minimise downtime and support safe, efficient underground and surface operations

As part of our team, you will
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, servicing, inspections and breakdown repairs on heavy mobile and light vehicles
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults
  • Execute maintenance activities in line with site plans, safety standards and OEM requirements
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team to achieve site KPIs across safety, availability and reliability
  • Demonstrate strong alignment to Newmont values, including safety leadership, ownership and continuous improvement
  • Provide support and guidance to junior team members as required
Prerequisites for your success in this role
  • Qualified Diesel Fitter or Heavy Automotive Mechanic with a Certificate III or equivalent
  • Extensive experience servicing, maintaining and repairing a diverse range of underground mobile equipment
  • Experience with Sandvik Drills, CAT loaders & Trucks and Normet equipment highly desirable
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • A commitment to safety and the ability to follow all safety policies and procedures
  • A valid Australian driver's licence is required
