About the Role

The Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) provides strategic leadership for the Premier’s Department’s digital, data and technology investment, supporting the work of the Premier’s Department, The Cabinet Office and the Ministry.

In this role, you will set digital direction, oversee cyber security, data governance and major digital initiatives, and provide clear, trusted advice to senior executives and Ministers. You will balance forward‑looking transformation with the delivery of reliable, secure and high‑quality digital services that support central government functions.

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Corporate Services, you will lead a multidisciplinary Branch of technical and digital professionals. The role operates with a high level of autonomy and accountability, including significant financial and administrative delegation.

  • Strategic Digital Leadership: Proven experience developing and delivering digital and technology strategies aligned to organisational priorities
  • Senior Stakeholder Influence: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build trust, provide clear advice and gain buy in from senior executives and central agency stakeholders
  • Governance & Risk Expertise: Strong understanding of cyber security, data, records management and emerging technologies, including AI, within complex regulatory and policy environments
  • Service & User Focus: A demonstrated commitment to delivering user‑centred, reliable digital services that enable high‑consequence government work
  • People & Financial Leadership: Experience leading diverse technical teams, managing budgets and exercising financial and operational delegations with accountability
