About the role
This is a permanent part-time opportunity working 64 hours / fortnight and will be based at Foyer Central in Chippendale

Foyer is a service that operates 24/7 and shift times for tis position are as follows:

  • 7:00am to 3:30pm (Tuesday & Saturday)
  • 3:00pm to 11:30pm (Wednesday& Thursday)

Based in Chippendale in Sydney's CBD, this role is responsible for working with young people aged 18 to 22 years who have a lived experience of out-of-home care.

Working within a coaching framework (Advantage Thinking model), you will manage a caseload of up to 12 young people. Your goal will be to motivate our young people to engage in the required daily activities. You will work to provide a safe and stable environment, demonstrating positive role modelling to enable our young people to meet their goals and achieve their full potential.

Foyer Central is Uniting’s bold social impact investment program in partnership with St George Community Housing Social Venture Australia. The program provides young people with a lived experience in Out of Home Care (OOHC), independent housing with a supporting team of Youth Development Coaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day support and coaching for young people.
  • Develop and facilitate individualised learning and development plans.
  • Deliver group activities and skill-building programs.
  • Support pathways into education, training, and employment.
  • Promote student participation and agency in decision-making.
  • Respond to incidents and maintain accurate case records.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and culturally competent environment.

About You

  • Must hold a minimum Diploma level qualification in Community Services or relevant field
  • Strong ability to build positive relationships with young people, including those from diverse backgrounds (Aboriginal, CALD, LGBTI).
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice and experience supporting young people with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting young people leaving care.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexible, resilient, and committed to helping young people achieve their goals.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence

Even Better:

  • Proven experience in casework with young people
  • Experience facilitating groups and managing group dynamics
  • Knowledge of multiple service systems and the support that young people leaving OOHC require to transition to independence.
  • Practice within a coaching framework.
