About the Role

We’re seeking a dedicated professional to play a critical role in managing and optimizing our Site Metal Flow Drumbeat. This is your opportunity to make a real impact—ensuring seamless operations, maintaining high standards, and contributing to strategies that shape the future of our site’s performance.

Core Activities
  • Provide the business context to your area of accountability, enabling all employees to link their role accountabilities to the delivery of the Site Metal Flow Drumbeat safely to plan.
  • Effectively manage the Site Metal Flow protocol.
  • Continuously monitor Crucible location and status of Work Cycle.
  • Has the authority to halt Tapping, keeping the Reduction and Ingot Mill Supervisors informed of the reason and duration.
  • Continuously monitor Crucible condition (functionality, cleanliness, bath weight/quantity) and liaise with the Crucible cleaning team for augering and repairs.
  • Measure and report on agreed KPI’s and Site Metal Flow Drumbeat metrics.
  • Capture all issues and concerns that impact the Site Metal Flow Drumbeat and document them for review at each daily meeting.
  • Provide input into Site Metal Flow logistics strategies, budgets, and plans, as well as the improvement of workflow processes.
What You Can Bring To The Role
  • Technical expertise: strong understanding of metal flow processes, crucible operations, and industrial protocols.
  • Safety leadership: proven ability to uphold and enforce safety standards in high‑risk environments.
  • Analytical skills: ability to monitor, measure, and report on KPIs and operational metrics with attention to detail.
  • Decision‑making authority: confidence to make critical operational decisions, including halting processes when required.
  • Problem‑solving: skilled in identifying issues, documenting concerns, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration: effective communicator who can liaise with multiple teams, including Reduction, Ingot Mill, and Crucible Cleaning.
  • Planning & strategy: experience contributing to logistics strategies, budgets, and workflow optimization.
  • Adaptability: ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and respond quickly to operational changes.

Location

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day‑to‑day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 percent of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
