Administration Officer Emergency Department (ED) Awabakal Country - John Hunter Hospital

About the role: In this role, youll be at the forefront of patient care, responsible for efficiently handling patient registration, collaborating closely with clinical staff to document patient journeys, updating records, and promptly addressing inquiries via phone. As one of the first welcoming faces patients encounter, you play a crucial role in ensuring accuracy in their details and documenting care decisions. With comprehensive training and ample opportunities for professional growth, youll find fulfillment in this role. Your primary collaborators will be the dedicated nursing staff, including triage nurses at the front of the house and supporting the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM1) within the department. The ED operates 24/7 and Administration Officers can work a mix of day and afternoon shifts (hours of administration support are 06:30 – 23:30).

Where youll be working: This is an opportunity to work for the largest employer in the region which services a population of more than 900,000 across the Hunter, New England, and Lower Mid North Coast areas. John Hunter Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital and is the largest hospital in the Hunter New England Local Health District. Hunter New England Health has strong, innovative connections with the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute.
John Hunter Hospital ED is the largest within Hunter New England Health District, with a team of 25 administration staff and an ED team of approximately 400 staff. Opportunities may be available to circulate through other Critical Care Services however this role is ED-specific.
