About the Position
We are seeking Sterilisation Technicians to join our team with training and support available to build your knowledge and skills in this role.
You will receive requests by phone and email from nursing and support staff, to clean and sterilise medical equipment. You will interpret requests and reference and comprehend standards to confirm the correct sterilisation protocol, following rigorous processes to reduce the risk of infection and cross-contamination.
Regular tasks include:
- Sorting instruments and equipment from operating theatres, wards, and other areas for appropriate decontamination.
- Validating the sterilisation process against manufactures recommendations and providing evidence to demonstrate the item will meet the requirement of being sterile and safe for use.
- Ensuring items are sterilised, packaged, sealed, stored and dispatched correctly.
- Ensuring the optimum function of equipment through established work practices and quality controls - monitoring and performing testing of sterilisation processes, equipment, and equipment operation, including maintenance.
- Checking items for faults or defects and functionality and reporting and recording any malfunction of equipment to the Clinical Nurse or Supervisor.
- Tracking and reordering supplies, equipment, and reusable medical devices.
- Participating in and contributing to orientation programs and continuing education for Healthcare Sterilisation and Supply Department (HSSD) staff.

If you have a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Sterilisation Services), are computer literate and able to demonstrate clear communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to follow established protocols and procedures accurately, then this is the role for you!
About the Team
Based at Perth Childrens Hospital, our dedicated Sterilisation Team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of medical instruments, minimising the risk of infection and safeguarding the health of our young patients.
We work closely with clinical and operational teams to understand their needs and promptly provide safe and sterilise instruments for their use, adhering to stringent quality assurance processes. As an industry leader in traceability, each item in our sterile store is meticulously documented, employing advanced software to track the sequence, usage, and outcomes for each of the 56,000 reusable medical instruments.
We actively engage in understanding the delicate instruments we handle, conducting regular testing and monitoring for defects and functionality. We are passionate about our speciality and also provide education and training to other hospital staff on the proper handling and care of sterilised instruments.
