Principal Lawyer, State Development and Infrastructure

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) is the Queensland Governments land use planning and property development agency. We embrace partnerships across government, industry and the community to deliver new residential communities, urban precincts and industrial ecosystems to unlock development opportunities in strategic locations throughout Queensland across housing, enterprise and place basedoutcomes aligning with government priorities. The role of a Principal Lawyer is to provide strategic legal advice on a range of interesting and complex property and commercial matters. EDQ is seeking a strategically focused and pragmatic senior lawyer with significant legal experience to join its team.

EDQ is responsible for delivering the purpose of the Economic Development Act 2012, principally the facilitation of economic development, diverse housing and development for community purposes. It is dedicated to driving economic growth, sustainable development, and community prosperity across Queensland, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of our state.

This role offers a stimulating environment with opportunities to deliver exceptional work. In this role you will be encouraged to not only work with other members of your team but also form working relationships with other business units and project teams within EDQ, along with other external stakeholders (including Crown Law), state agencies and consultants. You will also identify emerging legal issues affecting EDQ and make recommendations to senior management on trends, risks and future opportunities.

As a Principal Lawyer in Governance and Legal, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Providing timely high quality strategic legal advice that is practical, and solutions focused to a variety of clients, including the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Executive Officer, the Minister, senior managers and EDQ officers on:- the Economic Development Act 2012 and the powers of the Minister for Economic Development Queensland (MEDQ);- the planning and delivery of property development projects- land sale contracts (including off-the-plan), disclosure documents, options agreements, development agreements, development covenants, easements, leases, licenses, funding agreements, mortgages and other commercial agreements;- confidentiality deeds, novation or variation agreements, memorandums of understanding, terms sheets and other deeds or agreements.

The successful applicant must be admitted, or qualify for admission, as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with demonstrated relevant experience. A minimum of 5 years post admission experience in relevant practice areas is preferred.
