The Lived Experience Peer Worker is a key part of The Salvation Armys Canberra Recovery Services Foundations Program. They offer support to people facing substance use challenges by sharing their own experiences of recovery.

Working closely with the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) team and other staff, they take a person-centred, trauma-informed approach. They help run group sessions, share useful information about services, and provide hope and encouragement through their own recovery story.

About the role We are seeking a values-driven Lived Experience Peer Worker, alongside the AOD team and other clinical staff to support and assist improving the wellbeing of people with substance use challenges who are engaged with the Canberra Recovery Services Foundations Program. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, this is a Casual role, located in Canberra Recovery Services Centre, ACT.

You will successfully Share lived experience perspectives with the AOD team to facilitate further understanding to improve and influence service, consistent with recovery-orientated practice Assist individuals in navigating the community health system, accessing external support and provide information on community resources and services Assist in developing and facilitating creative recreational or lifestyle activities for participants to engage in self-care, personal development, and community engagement as part of a holistic recovery Disclosure of lived experience in an appropriate and purposeful manner that empower, brings hope and supports the recovery of participants. Show sensitivity and respect to all participants and staff including those of diverse faiths, cultures, beliefs, sexual orientations, and genders. You will have Lived experience of addiction and recovery Certificate 4 in Community Services or related field (e.g., AOD, Mental Health) or the willingness to obtain A National Criminal History Check is required Evidence of completion of peer training (through DEN or SHARC) Working with vulnerable people card is mandatory Knowledge of the issues and challenges AOD clients experience and a clear understanding of harm minimisation approaches.
