The Graduate Program offers a Graduate Diploma in Meteorology, so that you are equipped with a globally recognised qualification and skills to become the next generation of Meteorologists at the Bureau. Meteorologists deliver impact and value through customer centred products and solutions designed to change behaviours that enhance our everyday lives and safety. This includes diagnosing the state of the atmosphere and oceans, producing forecasts and warnings, and communicating the impact of these products with a wide variety of customers and industries.

Youll learn how to:
  • apply various scientific techniques, including data visualisation and analysis tools.
  • analyse, and interpret meteorological data sources and numerical weather prediction model output to forecast atmospheric conditions.
Youll be able to transform studied theoretical knowledge into a solid foundation of skills on which to use to build your career. Use the skills you learn to be there when it matters most for all Australians and all Australia, every day Learn from some of Australias leading scientists as you develop a deep knowledge of services for severe weather, marine and Antarctic environments, climate, water and volcanic ash prediction. A day in this role can include preparing and communicating weather forecasts for the public as well as specific users such as the emergency services sector. The roles are ongoing and located at Melbourne Bureau Meteorology Training Centre - Broadmeadows for the 10-month training period. Following successful completion of the course Meteorologists will be posted to one of our sites around Australia, with Melbourne or Brisbane most likely, followed by other capital cities, or possibly regional location including rural Defence bases.
