Primary objective To provide leadership within Maningrida College to ensure smooth day to day running of the college and the development and delivery of effective education programs that comply with DOE policy and the expressed needs of the Maningrida community as articulated in the Department and Colleges strategic planning. To provide leadership to Maningrida College within the Preschool, Primary and Middle Years School sections, across all programs. Context statement Maningrida College is a bilingual school located in Arnhem Land approximately 530km from Darwin. Maningrida College is a large remote school with around 580 students enrolled from preschool through to Year 12. The College has several focus areas which include: Visible Learning; increasing the effectiveness of literacy and numeracy teaching across the school; using a wide variety of assessment information to guide educational programs; and supporting student social and emotional development. A core responsibility of this position would be to lead the Preschool, Primary and Middle Years section of the school in curriculum delivery of literacy and numeracy. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning programs from Transition to Year 7, aligned with evidence-based research, whole-school approaches, and effective pedagogies that meet the diverse needs of students. 2. Lead the implementation and alignment of school-based policies and procedures with departmental policy through effective leadership and positive partnerships with the College and community. 3. Ensure high expectations for student learning and school improvement are set and maintained across the school. 4. Contribute to and lead the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment plans and procedures in line with Departmental policy to meet student needs. 5. Lead and manage the development and implementation of wellbeing programs, policies and plans for the college. 6. Provide advice and support to the Principal on educational, financial and administrative matters in order to achieve educational outcomes and the goals of the School Improvement Plan. 7. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Transition to Year 7 programs, including support for students with special needs. 8. Establish the expectation for all staff to achieve high standards and builds the staffs capacity through professional development and performance management. Selection criteria Essential 1. Proven ability to work collaboratively with teams of staff, students and parents at a level appropriate for an Assistant Principal. 2. Demonstrated high-level cross-cultural communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills that will enable positive engagement with the College and community. 3. Applicants work history and performance demonstrates the knowledge to implement strong research-based programmes utilising the Early Years Framework and Australian curriculum, assessment, monitoring, moderation and reporting processes. 4. Extensive knowledge of curriculum and success in using a range of teaching pedagogies, including ICT and ESL, for successful student outcomes. 5. Working knowledge of the ACECQA and the National Quality Standard as it relates to Preschool. 6. Proven experience using a coaching philosophy. 7. Experience teaching/leading Fresh Start/Fast Track and Meaningful Maths. Desirable 1. Relevant qualifications in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language (TESOL) / English as a Second Language (ESL). 2. An understanding of working in a remote Indigenous community and the complexities of Homelands education. Further information
