Due to unprecedented growth, they are seeking an Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper to support the finance function. This is a permanent full-time position, with the opportunity to combine remote working with office-based hours.

About the role 

The Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper will support the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with accounting, trust, and statutory obligations. This role involves a range of tasks including trust and office account reconciliations, managing disbursements, processing payroll support, and assisting with financial reporting.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

General Bookkeeping

  • Recording day-to-day financial transactions in EvolveGo

  • Assisting with bank, credit card, and petty cash reconciliations

  • Supporting accounts receivable and payable functions including invoice processing and payment runs

 Trust Accounting

  • Assisting in maintaining the trust account in accordance with the Legal Profession Uniform Law (LPUL) and VLSB+C regulations

  • Recording trust receipts and disbursements and help with monthly trust reconciliations

  • Supporting the Finance Manager in preparation for annual trust account audits

 Disbursement Management

  • Monitoring, processing and tracking legal disbursements (e.g. medico-legal reports, court filing fees)

  • Working with legal teams to ensure correct coding and documentation of disbursements

Payroll and Statutory Compliance

  • Assisting the Finance Manager with payroll preparation and processing

  • Helping manage ATO reporting requirements (including BAS, IAS, STP) and superannuation contributions

 Reporting and Administrative Support

  • Providing assistance with preparing monthly financial reports and reconciliations

  • Maintaining accurate filing of financial documentation, both digital and physical

  • Supporting the Finance Manager in ad hoc financial and administrative tasks as required

 About you

  • Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role;

  • Bookkeeping or accounting qualifications would be advantageous;

  • Experience with accounting softwares such as Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks;

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management;

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively;

  • Experience in a legal or professional services environment (desirable);

  • Working knowledge of trust accounting and general ledger principles (desirable); and

  • Familiarity with legal practice management software (e.g. Practice Evolve).
