We are a mixed‑method and ethnographic research program designed to better understand the financial behaviours and needs of young adult Australians. Originally inspired by the U.S. Financial Diaries, the program works with a panel comprising dozens of participants across several Australian cities and regional centres, over months or years. A small research team collects demographic, financial and observational data. These data sets are synthesised to develop impactful insights and reporting, which are then used by senior industry stakeholders to inform customer strategies, industry policies and staff training.
Tracking household finances is the starting point to uncover complex dimensions of Australians’ financial lives, including their views on the economy, use of different financial products and future hopes and aspirations.
The program offers opportunities for the research findings to be published in industry or academic outlets and presented at industry, government or academic events.
This will be a 12‑month secondment or fixed‑term opportunity with potential for extensions.
We are currently seeking an experienced Research Lead to help drive the next phase of this program. This senior role will report to the overall program leader and be responsible for the end‑to‑end execution of the research, and technical management of the research arm of the team which comprises one senior analyst and two researchers.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, contributing to the overall strategy of the program, developing and managing mixed‑method field research strategy and approach, synthesising qualitative and quantitative data, leading the reporting and presentation of findings, managing program risks and quality, working closely with internal and external domain and technical experts.
We operate in a hybrid working environment, meaning a blend between being in the office and working remote.
If you’re a driven, collaborative and enthusiastic who wants to have a real impact on the lived experience of our customers – we would love to hear from you!
