Lead Electrical Project Engineer
This Position reports to: Engineering Manager-Energy Industries AU
Your role and responsibilities In this role, youll help run what runs the world, by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact. You will have the opportunity to act as the technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments. Each day, you will ensure the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by acting as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completing the corresponding engineering assignments.

This role is contributing to the Energy Industries in Australia. Main stakeholders are clients, contractors, and internal teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Provide project-level technical leadership and integration across engineering packages including eHouse, Synchronous Condenser, transformers, LV/MV switchgear, protection, controls, and power-system modelling.
- Define and manage technical requirements; lead design reviews; track and close review comments to meet grid-connection and customer standards compliance.
- Oversee Safety-in-Design and risk workshops (SiD, HAZOP/CHAZOP); own the action register through to acceptance.
- Coordinate grid-connection deliverables (dynamic models, performance data); consolidate responses to system-operator queries.
- Installation and grid compliance, including AEMO power system modeling (R0, R1, and R2), with a proven track record of leading large projects and coordinating with multiple parties.
- Maintain design configuration control (document register, revision management, as-built reconciliation).
- Act as the primary liaison between the design contractor, internal engineering teams, and project stakeholders for primary and/or secondary systems.
- Manage interface alignment with primary and/or secondary, civil, and SCADA leads to ensure constructable and clash-free designs.
- Monitor progress of deliverables, identify risks, and escalate to the Engineering Design Lead and Engineering Manager.
- Support installation, commissioning and energisation planning; ensure design intent is preserved through field execution.
- Minimum10 years in high-voltage electrical or power-systems projects with design oversight and integration responsibility, specifically in eHouse, Synchronous Condenser, LV/MV Switchgear, and Protection.
- Proven ability to interpret, apply and manage compliance with stringent and wide-ranging customer standards and specifications, ensuring that all design outputs meet or exceed those requirements.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Standards, including AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules) and AS 2067 (Substations and High-Voltage Installations), and the ability to apply them in practice.
- Understanding and application of electrical industry best practice - for example: following ENA engineering guidelines (e.g. EG-0, EG-1), applying Safety-in-Design principles, adopting proven IEC/IEEE methods, prioritising maintainability and reliability, and integrating sustainability and whole-of-life considerations into design.
- Strong project coordination and organisational skills to manage multiple design packages concurrently.
- Possess an enhanced knowledge of specialized software/platforms such as PSSE/PowerFactory/PSCAD, ETAP, AutoCAD, and EPLAN.
- Demonstrated ability to review power-system studies and identify material non-compliances.
- Strong stakeholder coordination, risk-management and technical-communication skills.
- Proficiency in schedule tracking and cost reporting tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, ERP systems).
- Adaptability to work in multi-site, fast-paced project environments.
