THE POSITION
Rockhampton Girls Grammar School invites applications for a passionate and dedicated Head of Boarding.
Position Title: Head of Boarding (Onsite residential position)
Salary: In addition to your salary, you will be provided with onsite fully maintained residential accommodation, electricity, water, Wi-Fi and have full access to meals provided in the school dining room

POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Head of Boarding is an essential member of the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School Executive Leadership team with delegated responsibility for overseeing all aspects of Boarding at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. The Head of Boarding reports directly to the Principal, works collaboratively with the Executive team and is responsible for the organisation and strategic leadership of the Boarding Department and Boarding Facilities.
The focus of the Head of Boarding is both strategic and operational in nature, with primary responsibility for the leadership, management, administration and oversight of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School's two boarding houses, with the care, safety and wellbeing of boarding students the prime consideration.
The Head of Boarding will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be accessible to all members of the Girls Grammar community. They will work collaboratively with colleagues, including but not limited to the Principal, relevant members of the Executive Leadership team, Middle Leaders, Teachers, School Counsellor, School Nurse, Indigenous Liaison Officer, Indigenous Education Officers and all Boarding staff to best meet the individual needs of students.
The Head of Boarding hours will align with the operational needs of boarding, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends. The Head of Boarding is a hands-on role, requiring the successful candidate to be on the roster, modelling expected routines for boarding staff and providing a supportive, structured environment where every student is known and feels a strong sense of belonging.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS
Leadership
Maintain a visible, hands-on presence in all boarding activities, modelling care, support, professionalism, and clear boundaries.
Oversee policies, procedures, and compliance with ABSA and CRICOS standards.
Lead, support, and train boarding staff, including inductions, meetings, performance reviews, and goal setting.
Coordinate leave processes, health needs, maintenance, safety, events, and communication with stakeholders.
Collaborate with Human Resources, IT, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and effective systems.
Community Leadership
Foster a shared vision for boarding among students, staff, families, and the wider community.
Build positive, respectful relationships with families, balancing challenging and celebratory communication.
Promote school ethos at internal and external events, in publications, and through public engagement.
Student Leadership
Provide proactive pastoral care, supporting student wellbeing, resilience, and accountability.
Uphold and enforce consistent behavioural, presentation, and academic expectations.
Ensure child protection training, reporting, and monitoring are followed by all staff.
Educational Leadership
Support academic progress through collaboration with academic leaders and tailored study programs.
Provide professional development for boarding staff, informed by current research.
Deliver a structured life skills program for boarders.
Administrative Leadership
Manage rosters, budgets, attendance, and digital systems in line with duty of care and compliance standards.
Oversee accurate record-keeping, operational processes, and financial requirements.
Knowledge, Attributes & Competencies
Strong interpersonal, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead with professionalism, discretion, and high visibility.
Commitment to lifelong learning, student development, and community engagement.
Data analysis skills to inform programs and initiatives.
Master's degree desirable but not essential.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
The successful application is required to:
· Hold a current Queensland College of Teachers registration (prefered); or
· Hold a current Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.
· Prior experience in a leadership role.
· Have comprehensive understanding of student pastoral and wellbeing issues, and relevant state and national legislation, and their implications for school leaders, teachers and students.
