Nexus Arts is seeking a passionate First Nations Program & Engagement Lead to work collaboratively across our suite of programs and services

Salary: $73,000 per annum pro rata at 0.3FTE, plus compulsory superannuation contributions

Hours: 0.3FTE (11.4 hours per week) with intent to increase

Commencement Date: from December 2025 to be negotiated

End Date: 31 December 2026 with view to renew

Location: Kaurna Yarta (Adelaide CBD)

Reports to: Nexus Co-CEOs

THE POSITION

Nexus Arts is seeking a passionate First Nations Program & Engagement Lead to work collaboratively with the Nexus Arts team across our suite of programs and services:

  • To foster connections with and explore collaborations with First Nations artists, arts workers, communities and organisations
  • To lead Nexus Arts programs in First Nations inclusion, promoting cultural safety processes amongst staff, artists and other program participants.

The intent of the position is to be a conduit, amplifying diverse First Nations artists voices and assisting Nexus Arts to deepen and embed our community connections across the organisation.

To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge and understanding of South Australian Aboriginal traditional and contemporary arts and culture, experience in working with artists and experience in the development of arts programs and initiatives.

As this is a new role in the organisation, there is much scope to shape and grow the position in consultation with the Co-CEOs and with support from a mentor.

SELECTION CRITERIAEssential:
  • Knowledge and understanding of South Australian Aboriginal traditional and contemporary arts, cultures and communities.
  • Understanding of the needs of First Nations artists and communities, and ability to effectively advocate on their behalf.
  • Experience in working with First Nations artists, communities and organisations.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of arts programs and initiatives.
  • Experience with building productive and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • Experience with facilitating communication between First Nations artists / communities and others, promoting understanding and collaboration.
Optional:
  • Understanding of the wider Australian arts sector, including current issues, developments and opportunities.
  • Understanding of community cultural development frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation, and public speaking), including a proven ability to create clear and engaging content for diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Previous experience in policy writing and governance.
  • Previous experience with education programs and working with young children.
