The Position
Director Medical Services
Fixed Term Temporary Full Time (2-year contract with possibility of extension)
This is a critical leadership role responsible for the Medical Services and Clinical Governance across Central Highlands to meet organisational and community needs.
Working closely with the General Manager (GM) and Executive Director (ED) together with the Leadership team, you will be an authority on medical services for rural sites; as well as provide expert advice in resolving complex, clinical, medico legal, ethical, and operational challenges.
In addition to the clinical role which is that of a General Practitioner or a Rural Generalist, as a medical leader it is envisaged you will promote a quality improvement culture as a core member of the Central Highlands management team. You be involved in the development of high performing teams with functional capability in providing healthcare to consumers across a large and diverse geographical area.

The Location
Emerald Hospital is located 300kms west of the Queensland coastline. The population of the surrounding community is approximately 28,000 with 15,000 at Emerald. There are three multipurpose health services (MPHS) hospitals within 100kms, located at Blackwater: Springsure and a discreet indigenous community at Woorabinda. Emerald Hospital is a 36-bed facility, has two operating theatres and approximately 160 staff delivering services across acute, community and primary care. 300 to 400 babies are born at the Emerald Hospital each year.
Emerald Hospital has recently obtained accreditation for medical officer training for the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Essential Criteria
Mandatory qualification/s:
MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Fellowship of either the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or fellowship of another appropriate Australian specialist college.
Enrollment and maintenance of ongoing CPD program with the appropriate bodies is mandatory.
Non-mandatory qualifications/requirements:
Advanced skills training would be looked upon favourably.
AFRACMA or FRACMA would be looked upon favourably – there are opportunities to attain specialist medical administration training while in the role.

Up to $554,152 p.a. (L27)
Up to $526,821 p.a. (L25)
Up to $448,006 p.a. (L18)
