Overview\nLead Northern Australia's premier government veterinary diagnostic laboratory driving biosecurity, animal health and scientific excellence.
\nBerrimah Veterinary Laboratory is the Northern Territory’s government veterinary diagnostic laboratory and a cornerstone of its biosecurity capability. It delivers nationally accredited diagnostic, surveillance, certification and research services that support animal health, emergency disease preparedness and response, and market access for the livestock and aquaculture industries.
Responsibilities\nYour core responsibilities include leading the operations and strategic direction of Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality diagnostic, certification and research services that support animal health, biosecurity and trade outcomes.
\nProvide authoritative advice to government and industry stakeholders; represent the Northern Territory on national and international laboratory and biosecurity forums; foster collaborative research partnerships; and oversee laboratory quality systems, operational performance, procurement and budget management.
\nPlay a key part in strengthening emergency animal disease preparedness and supporting biosecurity responses across the Territory.
Qualifications\n• Degree in Veterinary Science registrable in the Northern Territory, or an equivalent qualification recognised in Australia, plus a postgraduate qualification in a relevant laboratory discipline. • Extensive experience in veterinary diagnostic laboratories, including specialist expertise in veterinary diagnostics, laboratory quality systems and accreditation standards. • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage collaborative research programmes and build effective partnerships across government, industry and research organisations. • Experience supporting animal health surveillance, biosecurity preparedness and trade certification programmes will be highly regarded. • Prior exposure to Public Sector Management will also be viewed favourably.
