The Aviation Goods area command is responsible for facilitating legitimate trade through the border and enforcing customs and other legislation. Officers detect and provide a deterrence to the unlawful movement of prohibited, restricted or regulated goods and support revenue collection.

Our ideal candidate

Assistant Border Force Officers undertake processing and data entry tasks and provide administrative and operational support to Australian Border Force consistent with national policies and procedures.

  • Works under guidance against established priorities and procedures
  • Complete allocated tasks within required timeframes
  • Make decisions of procedural or administrative nature
  • Identify and manage risks that affect day to day tasks
  • Have a basic understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks
  • Support and maintain internal and external relationships.
The key duties of the position include:
  • General administrative support 
  • Administrative support in the clearance of people, goods, carriers and immigration functions 
  • Preparation of supporting documentation 
  • Dealing with client and stakeholder enquiries 
  • Receive and respond to written and telephone requests for routine information 
  • Inbox monitoring and escalation 
  • Collecting statistics and information 
  • Release of mail via the postal enquiries database 
  • Organising servicing and repairs of vehicle and equipment 
  • Assist as a Witness/Assistant Officer in stocktakes, bond runs, sourcing goods identified for destruction purposes, transfer of prohibited/restricted goods to Detained Goods 
  • Storage of received goods 
  • Keeping registers 
  • Counter enquiries 
  • A range of general supporting tasks 
  • Populating systems with data 
  • Entering and retrieving information from various databases and systems 
  • Assisting with storage, transfer and disposal of prohibited imports and release of restricted goods in accordance with import permits (under direction) 
  • Manual Cargo clearance 
  • Inputting of information into notices and forms 
  • Handling of seized goods 
  • Undertaking initial research to assist in the identification of goods.

Additional information

The following requirements apply to the position:

  • Employees are required to wear the ABF uniform 
  • Employees must attain and maintain mandatory training requirements
Eligibility

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

​The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
