Play a lead role in the delivery of strategic communication outcomes for the state’s largest Renewable Energy Zone

  • Temporary role to Jan 2030 - Fulltime at 35 hours per week plus FlexTime
  • Armidale, Newcastle or Sydney office location and Hybrid working from home and office supported
  • Salary range from $149,739 to $173,174 plus super and leave loading

EnergyCo NSW is spearheading the transition to renewable energy to deliver clean electricity to the people of NSW as coal-fired power stations near closure.

About the Opportunity

The Manager Project Communications and Engagement delivers strategic communications work for the New England Renewable Energy Zone project team and Community Engagement and Media team to ensure high quality and timely communications outputs for EnergyCo.

The role develops communications strategies and plans for major initiatives to effectively manage engagement with various community, industry and NSW Government agency stakeholders. It also coordinates the project teams’ responses to all media enquiries and ministerial requests such as talking points, contentious issues briefs and event briefs.

You are a collaborative and influential communications professional who builds strong relationships across teams to support cohesive, strategic messaging. With experience delivering high‑profile, politically sensitive projects under significant media scrutiny, you remain calm, exercise sound judgement, and manage complex information with clarity and discretion.

You engage confidently with diverse external stakeholders, fostering trust and constructive partnerships that enhance communication outcomes and organisational reputation. A natural leader, you influence without authority and guide others to maintain consistent, high‑quality communication. Your strategic mindset and proactive approach enable you to anticipate risks, navigate competing priorities, and deliver effective, reliable results.

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications or other relevant discipline and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Capacity and willingness to travel to regional locations, and to work outside of core business hours in the morning, evening and on weekends.

Who we are?

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
