About the role
Intelligence Analysts contribute to the planning, development and production of intelligence outcomes and outputs. Focused on the production of value-added intelligence product as a result of the collection, evaluation and analysis of information, Intelligence Analysts work closely with other intelligence professionals to drive operational activity and produce impactful insights to inform a range of partners on various aspects of transnational serious and organised crime impacting Australia.

With access to unique ACIC capabilities including human intelligence, coercive examinations, and physical and technical surveillance, Intelligence Analysts derive insights which assist our partners to disrupt serious and organised crime. This includes working to directly support our intelligence operations, developing our national picture of crime or providing advice directly to government. Intelligence Analysts have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to think critically and the drive to tackle complex problems. Intelligence Analysts in the ACIC may work across a variety of teams or thematic areas.

Intelligence Analysts may work in varying areas of the Intelligence Operations Division, including intelligence the Criminal Intelligence Assessment Team who are responsible for the implementation and delivery of criminal intelligence background checking capability for prescribed purposes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development of a range of high-quality intelligence products that inform decision-making by internal and external stakeholders
  • Applies advanced data interrogation, research capabilities and threat assessment methodologies, and assess threats, including the use of information technology to undertake analysis
  • Contribute to collection, analysis and production to inform against national intelligence priorities and projects
  • Capture insights from intelligence operations and investigations, and participate in ACIC intelligence collection activities and processes
  • Apply in-depth knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks for intelligence within a law enforcement environment
  • Support inter-disciplinary and inter-agency liaison to maintain productive networks and to promote information sharing, partnerships and common understanding
  • Role model a collegiate approach within the team that promotes a culture of flexibility and constant improvement, including the coaching and mentoring of junior staff.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following experience, skills and attributes:
  • Demonstrated experience in tactical, operational or strategic intelligence environments, including extensive knowledge of intelligence processes, methodologies and techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and conduct complex intelligence projects and achieve results under pressure
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to shape strategic thinking to maximise work linkages and opportunities
  • Ability to maintain high level awareness of the serious and organised crime environment to identify priorities, including new and emerging threats and nationally-significant criminal activity.
  • Takes a leadership approach to coaching and mentoring junior staff.
