Catholic Education has a network of 18 schools in the Northern Territory - five colleges, seven primary schools, one flexible learning centre and five remote schools and Early Learning Centres.

The Role:

The Advisor Inclusion Support Services (AISS) provides professional support to Catholic school principals, teachers and support staff across the Northern Territory to assist in the development and delivery of individualised programs and adjustment plans for students with identified special needs. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Teaching and Learning through the Leader of Inclusion Support Services, the AISS supports schools in implementing effective pedagogical practices that meet the diverse learning and developmental needs of their students.

Essential Criteria:

• Knowledge of the current Australian Government and CENT policies, including those relating to the Disability Discrimination Act and Disability Standards for Education, and an understanding of the education of students with special needs;

• Excellent knowledge of current curriculum, theory and practice in relation to special needs programs and assessment tools;

• Demonstrated awareness of the social, economic and cultural diversity within the NT;

• Successful, inclusive classroom teaching experience;

• Significant experience and knowledge of Inclusive Education theory and practice in the development of programs to support students with diverse needs;

• Experience in working effectively and collaboratively with principals and staff in schools in the preparation and delivery of professional learning programs;

• Skills in writing policies for students with special educational needs;

• Skills and capacity to use and interpret diagnostic educational assessments;

• Capacity to coordinate responses and meet timelines for reporting purposes;

• Commitment to Catholic education;

• Proven capacity to work effectively with students with disabilities and their families, and with Indigenous students and parents;

• Communication skills of a high order, clear record of effective task completion and self-reliance; 

• Proficiency and currency of ICT skills to undertake the responsibilities of the position

• Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card), or application for such;

• NT Drivers License

Qualifications required:

• Eligibility for registration as a teacher in the Northern Territory (or willingness to apply for such);

• Appropriate tertiary qualifications or experience in Special Education.
