Primary Teacher at Uluru, NT

At the base of Uluru in Central Australia, a school is excited to welcome a primary teacher for its Year 3-6 class teacher. This role offers a rare opportunity to live and teach on Anangu and Pitjantjatjara land, building meaningful connections with students, families, and the local community. Situated in the stunning Uluru/Kata Tjuta National Park, youll join a school that is actively strengthening its partnership with local rangers to enhance its Indigenous Language and Culture program in a truly impactful way.   The school caters to Transition (Foundation) through to Year 6, with around 15-20 students per class. The literacy program, Read Write Inc., is central to the curriculum. Youll work alongside dedicated local teacher assistants and collaborate On-Country with two ranger groups, building on their strong and valuable partnerships. Surrounded by the serene desert landscape, Uluru and Kata Tjuta are just a short distance away, offering an unparalleled chance to support the inclusion of the regions natural and cultural heritage into your teaching.   This Aboriginal community comprises approximately 350 members with deep cultural roots, providing a rare opportunity to learn from and engage with Indigenous traditions, languages, and customs when invited. Living and working near Uluru combines adventure with access to essential services, including a medical clinic, childcare, post office, IGA, restaurants, coffee shops, and recreational facilities like a gym, pools, and sports areas. Life in Yulara offers the chance to be part of a vibrant, close-knit community, surrounded by the beauty of the desert and opportunities for cultural engagement, hiking, stargazing, and exploring iconic landmarks.   This is a full-time position for Semester 2 2025, with a possibility of extending. Additionally, a range of employment opportunities within the community and Yulara are available for partners.   Responsibilities include,

  • Planning, preparing and explicitly delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs, which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
  • Supporting students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices.
  • Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well-being and safety of students whilst at school.
  • Regularly assessing students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
  • Maintaining student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships between the school, parents and community.

  • Wages between $92,215 - $131,349 (plus super).
  • Annual remote allowances of $5,347, paid pro-rata fortnightly with salary. $6,410 with dependents.

What You Need to Succeed! Registered (or ability to) with TRBNT and a NT Working With Children check (ochre card) in addition to,
  • Bachelors degree in early years education or equivalent.
  • Ability to collaboratively plan, prepare and deliver teaching and learning programs to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of students; which are consistent with relevant curriculum policies, work programs and education trends.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment.
  • Regularly assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
  • Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively with students, staff and families through appropriate interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff, parents and members of the local school community in order to establish and develop productive partnerships, in an intercultural environment
  • Commitment to maintain current and relevant professional learning and meet Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
